Boa blowing mucus out of mouth

r_russell1981 Jun 13, 2007 07:36 PM

Have boa about 6ft. Got it about 3weeks ago. Noticed wheezing during handling and bubbles out of nostrils. raised temps in cage hot side about 102f cool about 86f. This morning noticed snake stood up and open its mouth as far as it could and blow mucus looking brownish stuff all over the cage. Done it about twice and hasnt done it since. Wondering if it means that its getting better and blowing it out or getting worse and I need to take it to the vet. Please help.

you should take him to the vet...

i don't know what the brown mucus is, but it sounds bad...

and i think the 102 is too hot...you could fry him & give him brain damage.

I've seen RI a few time in my collection, but usually get them to the vet as soon as I see the earliest signs.
what you described sounds pretty bad.

good luck. RI is treatable and not crazy expensive if you have a reasonable vet.
