leopard not eatting/slight twitch

nile_keepr Jun 13, 2007 09:59 PM

Hey folks.

Well, I was housing my approx. 1 year old male leo with an approx. same age male pictus gecko.

Up until recently, everything was fine between them. But lately Ive witnessed aggression from the pictus at feeding time. This being the case, I move the leo in a new, much larger enclosure.

A day or so before I removed him, the leo stopped eatting. He had been eatting mealworms/occasionalwaxworm dusted with powdered calcium. He was even taking superworms from the hand. He was growing, shed and looked great.

Now hes still not eatting, and has developed a slight twitch in his front legs when he moves. I see it when he moves (ie, forward motion) it seems like he reaches out a few times, but Im starting to think its some kind of twitch. Wish I could get video on the internet

Im sure that dosnt say much, but I hope you can give me SOME advice.

Taking it to a vet isnt an option til next week sometime due to work and vet location, so Im hoping you can help me out abit. Im gonna try offering calcium, as I found a post about cresteds and that was suggested; maybe itll help.

The twitch is generally caused from a lack of Calcium. I have a Patternless who developed the samething. To get her to stop, I doubled up the dustings for calcium.

As far as the not eating... To me it sounds like the bullying got to him. He could have also picked up a bacterial infection or a parasite.

What are the cage temperatures and how is heat being provided?

i think it might be stress.

give the gecko yogurt if u can, get it to lick it from a popcicle stick or even your finger. That'll help with the 'not eating' problem. As with the twitch...like I said, stress. Try covering the whole cage with a cloth so that he feels secure, but make sure that its thin enough for him to breathe. And again, about the 'not eating', my baby gecko ran away once for 5 months and I found him alive. So he went without food or water and it was only a baby. So I hope that that gives you hope; if that makes any sense.

Gook luck.
