seems one eye cap didnt shed?

baldy5000 Jun 13, 2007 11:16 PM

I have a nelsons albino with a well defined right eye with pupil etc. But his other eye seems to have not shed its eye cap? It is vusyually noticable and seems like it must be a hiundrance to him visually. Akmost like a contact in one eye. Cant really see the defined pupil. I gently rubbed it but no luc k coming off. what to do to get this shell off of his eye? Otherwise he is most friendly when being handled, even as i gently let him rub his "contact against my thumb" Did hids eye scale get stuck on hiem? what should I do?

Do not pull at the shed, it may come off in a day or two or on the next shed. Keep the tank damp a bit so the snake can stay hydrated. I have had a few snakes with this and the snake goes into another shed sooner then if it was a complete shed.

Try a wet washcloth or something gently rubbed on his head. Water always helps to soften dry skin. Don't rush it give it time to soak and soften up.

I agree with Jawn...use a damp cloth and let the snake slither through your hands through the wash cloth and apply a little pressure when its head is slithering through the cloth to help to remove the eye cap. It it doesn't fall off soon this way, take it too a vet before it gets infected.

get some clear tape than anyone has lying around the house...roll it up and gently touch the eye cap area only...and presto...it should come right off.
