start of a new rack and birth of a house

imridethelghtng Jun 14, 2007 12:32 PM

It was my birthday on the 5th of June. So my mother inlaw got this for me. Surprizing a inlaw i can get along with. Anyway its from ARS cages. I have the built in water dishes with the disposable cups. At the back of the rack is a 6" insulated heat strip. And last but most important its controled by a helix dbs 1000 thermostat. Hope you guys enjoy the pics. Im going to be adding levels to this rack shortly. Also i have a reptile house being built as i type lol. I will be posting pictures of that as it progresses. Not a huge facility, only 12'X 30' with a 8' ceiling. But its a start my contractor estimated the cost at $10,000. fully insulated wired and plumbed. So far i got the concrete slab poured. I personally know nothing about construction. So thats why i hired someone. Not great at photos either but ill do my best to keep you guys updated. Thanks to everyone for listening to me. I had to share my excitement with someone.

How much was the foundation? It would be about 8k in new england area for that size addition.

Are you going to put a room on top too, or a deck? Fun stuff!!

Damn! Does the 10K price include the slab? Where do you live? I am looking at a 24 x 24 or a 24 x 30 and I am looking at about 30-50K with the slab and that does not include electric or plumbing.

The slab i already had. Where the previous owner of my home, had put up a basket ball goal. I had to ad to the slab. To make it the size of the building im putting up. I live in north eastern missouri. The price includes plumbing which isnt much, just a sink.I have a basement on my house. So they are digging a hole and tapping into my house lines. The price also includes electrical and insulation.Lighting will be basically big shop lights that are on timers.Twelve hours on twelve hours off.The contractor is a friend of the family. All im paying for is materials. $10,000 is the estimate might cost a little more or less. Here is a pic of what ive got so far not much. Also remember its not a huge facility. The majority of my collection is ball pythons.Dont need alot of space for ball python racks.

I just built a 12X28 in Florida and the slab was around $2,100 when it was all said and done. I needed 18"x18" footers to meet code for wind load. The concrete was around $1,300 and another $500 to have it pumped back to the site from the street. That brings us to $1,800, then another couple hundred in boards, dirt and rebar for the form. I built up the footer instead of digging it into the ground. I am almost done with the entire building. I will post pictures and a total price. I think I will come in around 6K with everything.

Cheers,
Al
