i was talking with a well known breeder he informed me that there were albinos in floridana and brooksi and that they were NOT allelic w/each other(and breeding them together his words would create mutt double hets.)im curious if anyone here has heard this or has pics of the 2 ,i will try and get this guy to post this info(when i see him,next)but prefer not to name names just yet. it could/would explain alot imho,,,,,,,,,

Are you talking about lavender albino and albino florida/brooks kings?

I have the red eye albinos and bred them to the lavender albinos and got hets. This year I bred the double hets back to each. I can't wait to see what develops.

hey rainer, you know who im speaking of(email me if you dont)he lives here in houston., maybe he was reffering to redeyed albino and lavs im not sure. he is very adament about floridana and brooksi each having their own albinos and i had not heard that, i never thought about redeye & lav. but thats probably what he is reffering to thanks,,,,,,,,,thomas

Why would they be considered Mutts?

thats where im a lil confused as well, apparently he and others feel floridana and brooksi are THAT different,and that by breeding the 2 together is creating an intergrade/mutt.,,,,,,thomas

Not sure whos post you are replying to or if one was deleted?

If you were replying to my florida/brooks comment is that I always use those names interchangably for newbies. They are all floridana but the name brooksi if more familiar. I do not make a distinction between the two.

I'm not sure I agree that they are interchangeable.
but I don't want to argue about it.

From my perspective, brooksi is a regional pattern phase of floridana. Kind of like yuma kings and cal kings. All yuma kings are cal kings but only some cal kings are yuma kings.

Yes you are referring to south florida kings as brooksi. I agree with the distinction and it should be made. But the hobby has slung the brooksi term all around and the ponly true brooksi are verifieble wc s. florida locales. Just as i9n corns the okechobbee (Hunt Club) gets used for every nice corn.
