The Calico shuffle...

zefdin Jun 14, 2007 07:45 PM

It will be interesting to see what kind of staying power the price of Calicos will have over the next 18 months?

Dominant, no Super form...these kinds dont have the greatest price track record, but you never know, it is an awsome morph that looks great in different combos from what I have seen.

Will it be the slow price burn, or the Mojave meteor decent into the atmosphere?

Only time will tell, unless someone else has an opinion on the subject?

The Calico Dream is a Morph Combo.
It is a Calico X Pastel Ball Python.
So...tell me Zefdin do you know for CERTAIN that there is NOT a Super form of the Calico?
Or are you just speaking out of turn...mumbling aloud?
Regardless, I like how these two different genes play on one another.
Some inheritable traits "mix" to form more interesting combos that do not look like either single trait.
Other traits tend to look just as you might expect them to look.

The Calico and the Pastel genes form and almost entirely new looking snake. Imagine what Calico might do with other when mixed with other color or pattern mutations.
There is a lot more fun to come....lets wait to see if there is or is not a Super Calico....
And even if there is not a Super....the Combos will continue to be interesting.

It is a male that was produced by Michael Cole.
The more recent photos of the Calico Dream look even better.

Yeah, that was my understanding as well.
It is a nice project either way.

This has been and interesting year so far. A lot of cool looking new combos and new African stuff as well.
There are still so many eggs that are waiting to hatch.
It is going to be fun to see what else is produced.
I just got another clutch last week...and I have plenty more females that still have yet to lay eggs.

Should be a good season for many of us.

Honestly Harlin, I wasnt sure if the super form of this morph had been disproven? I know it has been in SK's collection in addition to several other peoples for some time though???

I think this morph has alot of beauty, and there has always been something mysterious about(at least in my mind).

WALL2WALLREPTILE Jun 15, 2007 10:53 AM

Alan,

I agree the Calico is a mysterious morph.
I also like the Shatter Pattern Balls....they are a little more subtle...but interesting all the same.
I love that Pastel X Shatter combo....will there be a super shatter? The Fun has only just Begun!

I think the calico is one of the all time most exciting ball pythons. I just hatched out my three nicest calicos to date. I'll post some photos of them after they shed, but suffice it to say I'm in love. Even if there isn't a super form (god forbid) the calico brings some totally unique things to the table. Not only is the pink of the juveniles unprecedented, but the more extreme examples have a beautiful vibrant orange around the pattern edging and on the underside. On top of that, it's also a pattern morph - more noticeable in some examples than others, and especially noticeable in the pastel calico. I think calicos are underappreciated possibly due to the fact that they resist all attempts to capture thier true colors with a camera. While I've always hated to see ads for animals that say "this animal looks much better in person", the calicos definitely do.

If there's a super form we should see it within the next month or so. PRAY WITH ME BROTHER!

Dan

Dan,
If I'm not mistaken, you started out with a calico that was not very impressive, but have since produced some outstanding examples from him. Can you post some pics of your original male and babies from last year?
Thanks Mike

dwherp Jun 15, 2007 04:55 PM

That's correct, my original Flora & Fauna line calico male is not a terribly impressive calico, never-the-less he produced some very nice calicos last year and again this year. I've got lots on my plate for the next few days - I'll post some photos of my breeder male and some of last year's babies, along with these newest hatchlings once they've shed (should be toward the end of next week).

Have a great weekend,
Dan

Hey Dan,

I love to drool in front of your photos!

....I did NOT mean photos of you!

.....I meant photos of your balls...LOL!

BALL PYTHONS that is!

Yes, I will join you in that prayer for a Super form.
Best wishes on your hatching this season.

Hey Michael,
Glad you posted!
Those are the photos I was hoping you would post!
The Calico Dream is AWESOME....yet it only hints at the potential of what the Calico gene is REALLY capable of doing.
The Calicos are a winning project.
Your Cal.Dream male just keeps getting better with age.
Talk to you again soon.

Michael,

Excellent! Just another example of how "untapped" the Royal Python morphs and combos are.

Good luck with your season.

Sincerely, Kyle

Michael, thanks for posting those pics. I'm hoping to see that updated pic from Sean. The Calico Dream is amazing! Of course, so is the pastel Calico.

I can't wait for my low white male to get big enough to throw some great combos next year. Now I have to decide what to breed him to . . . . what a wonderful dilemma.
