Question about racks setup

Necroscollector Jun 15, 2007 08:22 AM

If I drill holes in the tubes will the help regulator the heat on the warm and cool side better. The problem is I believe I am not getting a good temperature range. Example - Warm side will be 88 and the cool side will be 82. Therefore, I wondering if I drill some holes one the cooler side will that help drop the temperature a few degrees. Night time temperature is around 72 to 76. We keep our housing temperstat set at 76 all day and night.

Using a heating rope (Zoo-Med 85 watt)
Big Apple Herp Power Proportional Thermostat

Oh yeah no snakes are in the rack yet, I just trying to get all heating issues fixed first.
So any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Grover

It might have some affect butI would not expect too much. even if you cut one wall off the tubs are only so long across and the heat will stay somewhat regionalized.

I have ventilated a few of the hatchling tubs as much as is possible witho8ut losing integrity but haven't started heating yet so can't say how it will affect. As soon as temp drop a little hear I can let you know.

I don't expect it to be a very significant difference because unless room temp is a LOT lower then enclosure temp then even with slow airflow the heat will only disperse so far. Much bigger effect of the ventilation is fresh air for the enclosure and reduction of built up humidity.

So what heat range should I shoot for then? In your opinion.

thanks

I'd just shoot for keeping themid temp at 81-82 degree's. If you can do that then you should end up with a high range of 82-84 and a low range of 79-81. Which should work out fine as 79-84 is within the good safety range for daytime temps on corns. nighttime drop will likely take care of itself unless you have the houses thermostat set to maintain a single temp day and night with very little range before kicking on.

Just my two cents, hope is helpful.

Sean.
