Once Again...An OT Post!

badcompnay Jun 15, 2007 08:41 AM

Well, this week I did some volunteer work at Knowles Animal Hospital, the reason being is I applied for a Vet Tech position but seeing as I had no prior experience at an animal hospital, they asked me to do some volunteer work to see if I could cut it.

Long story short, I completed two days at the Hospital. Yesterday the head of HR called me and said to go take a drug test and take a computerized test of sorts. That I will be working hand in hand with a Vet who likes to train and mentor.

Opportunity is calling and I answered. I hope everything goes well since I do plan on becoming a Vet myself. I'm starting school in August for Pre-Veterinary Medicine and then hopefully go to UF for Vet School.

Wish Me Luck!!!!

That is so exciting! Exactly what I would have liked to have done. I was a zoology major in college for a while before switching over to business. I often think about making a complete career change and going back to school, but life always gets in the way. Keep us updated!

Congratulations! That is awsome news. Sounds like you are on your way to a very rewarding career. The reptile community definately needs more vets with a strong interest and understanding in reptiles. I am very fortunate to have a very good and respected vet for exotics near me but I have heard some horror stories from other people about reptile vet visits, bad information and just a lack of understanding about the animals.

My very first snake, I took to what I thought was a good reptile vet (on a reccomedation but he was on TV so I guess that made him an imediate authority to me), for an overall checkup after I purchased it. The vet sexed it for me and I was happy to have a female. A year later I bought a male, and two years after that tried breeding for the first time. They showed no interest at all and nothing happened that year, when nothing happened the next year I had them resexed and it turned out I was trying to breed two males. Duh, that won't work. Needless to say know I go to someone very reputable with snakes when I need a vet. I figure sexing one wrong isn't that big a deal but who knows what else they're getting wrong there.

Well again, congrats and good luck,
Milo

Update!!!

I went and took the drug test...lol....hope it goes well.

I start on monday pending the results from that test.

Im not sure about everyone here or how they feel about the "reefer". But the last time I did it was last Friday, go figure, the same day they called me to go in for an interview.

I took the precautions and went to CVS and bought some at home DT and it said I was clean on Wednesday. Took one again this morning, first thing when I woke up, and it said the same thing...clean. I always drink alot of water so I wasnt worried about that. I even went so far as to add some fresh squeezed lime to the water since that helps clean out ur Kidneys.

I can only hope I really am. If not I messed up big time.

Dont want to offend anyone or nothing like that, just a casual kind of smoker.....Id rather have a beer or some whiskey honestly.
