locality question

westtexas Jun 15, 2007 11:01 AM

just curious, would any alterna seen on 277 just be considered a 277 locality and/or loma alta? it seems as though there are several micro-localities or sub-localities within 277 depending upon where the animal was seen. for example, red bluff, radio tower, buffalo creek, loma alta, etc.

Hi Troy, I'd say that they're all 277's. But to narrow down where they originated from you can name a landmark nearby. With that said, when does a Juno Rd. alterna become an Juno Rd. alterna and not a Comstock alterna? How far up Juno Rd.? Where it the invisible line? Maybe it's called a Comstock Juno. lol

I'd say it depends on how picky you are and how much access you have to animals from different parts of the road. Some people breed from very tight locality if they are able to - such as Christmas mts. N. hill or S. hill.
How much difference is there between a snake from 5 miles N. of Loma Alta and one from 5 miles S. of Loma Alta? Or between one from 5 miles S. of Loma and one from Red Bluff?

Speaking of localities. Has anyone found an alterna on the Langtry Loop Rd. in rescent times? Just curious because there's been no talk of one.

Zee and I hit that loop a few times last week, no snakes sighted there. Sigh, I was hoping for a bogey from around there.
