Dimpled eggs...again

josieradley Jun 15, 2007 11:09 AM

All 18 of my western hognose eggs look ok and are at day 49 of incubation. They have begun to cave in and I am not sure whether or not to add more water to the substrate at this stage. Chondro eggs naturally emit water and dimple at this stage, and rehydration should not be attempted. Is the same true for hognose eggs, or should I be attempting to rehydrate them?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Jo

What temp are you incubating at? I incubated mine at 80 F, and they hatched at day 52. I would say to just leave them be, and start checking them on a regular basis. Nothong like seeing that little nose poke out at you!

My experience has been that they often do dimple shortly before hatching. It's been several years since I've bred any hognose until thisyear, but I do remember that dimpling was a good sign late in incubation.

Thanks again

Lovely photo-I really hope mine hatch and I get to see something like that.
