"-sigh- one day anthony, one day"

Thats what I tell myself when I see a BRB like that.....

rainbowsrus Jun 15, 2007 03:25 PM

Gems like those are not everyday, I can only think of a few legal ways to get one

1) Get some really nice BRB's and BREED them. Innthe litters there may be one or two keepers. Breed the keepers and the nixt gen keepers will be even better. Depending on your original BRB's and the genes they carry, could take multiple generations or not even ba able to happen.

2) Get on a wait list (or several of them) and be prepared to wait until it's your turn to get a screamer.

3) Have a friend who is a breeder and is producing screamers.

Well Dave, luckily im not in any kind of rush, Im a patient man when it comes to things like this, I would love to get a screaming orange one like Amber, possibly a male though

BTW - I was lookin at your website : This WC female was gravid when they caught her? If so, does this mean that the stripe in the BRB's is a natural occurance?? An example; 1 out of every 1000 lets say?

If the stripe was already concluded to be a natural occurance, then Im sorry.

Also, Ill e-mail the address on your website

rainbowsrus Jun 15, 2007 05:24 PM

np, like I said, email me and I'll get you on the list.

Yeah Eve came in gravid. Most likely inseminated in the wild but I guess it coulda happened after her capture if kept with others?? (gang banged in jail)

DAMN, light just came on. The 8 babies are so different, I always wondered why. Maybe there were multiple fathers. Not even necessarily in captivity, even in the wild there could have been multiple partners.

Never seen anything like that stripe before. seen merged adjacent ocelli but typically only two and never seen so many. Also, the other ones with less lateral striping were very broken and blotchy. Genevieve's stripes are clean as can be. I sure hope it's natural and genetic, then I can make more. There is the possibility she's a one of a kind and all her babies will not carry the stripe. Time will tell!! Might need two generations to prove, breed her son back to her. Her siblings may or may not carry the gene if it's genetic.

Slick looks like an appropriate name. I have never kept this species, same husbandry as Fire Skinks? I have kept and bred Fire skinks in the past. Babies are too kewl with their blue tails, pain in butt to feed though. Surprisingly easy to bred as well, lots of crickets involved though. lol. Those fire skinks can eat, my females ate pinkie mice and crickets mostly.

They love pinkies!!!!

hi,
lol, although "Slick" doesn't go with my normal naming patterns, it does fit him! I read an article talking about how scientists are studying sandfish because their skin has a coefficent of friction lower than any current manmade object!
no, the fire skink and sandfish skink have completely different requirements; while the fire skink likes humidity and mild warmth, the sandfish likes it very very dry and very very hot! I keep my sandfish in about 4 inches of calcium sand, with a small water bowl and a small dish to put milworms in. His basking spot is really hot at about 140° F!! Some caresheets say he needs the lower layers of sand to be moist, but I have not been able to do this (the calcium sand does NOT allow water to flow through it; you can actually form a "pond" on the surface of the sand) He seems to be fine with this setup: I've had him/her over a year now, and he has become much calmer than when I got him, and is a solid eater.

That is a gorgeous fire skink! Though I haven't seen many. The last one tried to bite me... a lot. The pet store employee didn't even want to try to catch it and let my gf and I try. Nasty little thing. Hope yours is nicer! It's definitely much prettier!
