May have lost 3 clutchs.................

wisema2297 Jun 16, 2007 08:56 AM

I came home from work this morning at about 8 am and checked on my incubator and about had a heart attack when I thermometer displayed 119F!!! My thermostat crapped out during the night.
A few of the 46 eggs still look normal but most have sunken in a bit and still others have also discolored in spots. I am hoping that the still normal looking ones will make it but then I may have kinks to deal with if they hatch.

As soon as I saw this I placed all egg containers out side where the temps where in the low 70's to cool them off. I dug out a new thermostat had it set and placed the eggs back in the incubator. I am hoping that they were not at those temps all night and it will e interesting to see if anything survives.

ouch!

I hope that temp was a faulty reading and all your eggs hatch fine. That really is a high spike. Makes me feel it may be worth spending $300-$300 on a thermostat has an audio alarm and auto shutoff switch so if it goes wacky, it turns off.

Here's hoping some of those eggs if not all, hatch out fine.

Yeah I see what you mean. I'll probably go the room temp route next time and just keep the whole room at 76-82 degrees and not worry about thermostats or incubators. On the flip side 2 of the 3 females are now gravid again with their second clutches so hopefully all is not lost!!
