Venomous snakes---best hobby on earth!
Bill Huseth
That is a great pic.
I just returned back to California after taking a long needed vacation in AZ. To my surprise the temps were cool. Mid 80's in the day and upper 50s at night. We stayed in Care free and Cave Creek. Not finding any snakes but a leafnose, and a few sheds decided to change locations. We then went to Wickenburg and met some real nice locals. One lady told me the night before her kids found some Gilas on her property. Another customer told me that they also had Gilas living there.
I would love to see these spectacular lizards in the wild. And all the people we were talking with, had to throw in my face how these elusive reptiles are everywhere. It just dosent seem to be in the cards for me to find them.
Keep posting those great elusive reptiles you lucky son of a gun!

Hey...glad you liked the shots....these guys aren't rare by any means, but they can be elusive...just have to know when/where/how to look for 'em...even then, sometimes it's a crapshoot as to whether you'll see any...rest assured that when you DO find one, you won't mistake it for anything else! I can still remember my first one, back in 1993 down by Tucson...you won't forget it either....
Until then, if it's small consolation to ya, I'll keep postin' pics so you don't forget what these guys look like!
Yes, here in Az the AHA (Arizona Herpetological Association) gets numerous calls to remove & relocate Gilas from people's yards...We should all be so lucky as to have Gilas show up at our front doors, no?

You don't know me...love to pop into the venomous forum to look at all the amazing photos from time to time (like these).
You mentioned seeing a gila in Tucson. I'm going to be in Tucson (first time in AZ) for a shoot either in October or November this year. Can you recomend any good herping spots around there? Is that a bad time of year to even see anything?

I remember living in phoenix and there was a baby one in our yard, we noticed it as we were moving in, we had to clean up the yard from the previous owners. When we moved this giant drum there it was behind it. We just watched it for a bit and then walked away. They are really pretty animals. Thanks for sharing your pics. --Izora
