chris nicholas Jun 16, 2007 01:56 PM

Hello,

I am a boa guy interested in making a small jump into the blood pythons, can someone give me the real in and outs of keeping them. Temp requirments, housing, etc.

Thanks,

Chris,
The Bloods are a great project to get involved with. They are very easy to keep. All of mine are kept in a rack system on newspaper with a water dish. I keep them at room temp being my temps usually stay 78-82. I do Boas as well and the Bloods take a fraction of the time to maintain as my other projects. As far as their temperments I have about 80 sub adult to adult Bloods and STP's and I only have 3 animals that I would consider a chore to deal with, all of my others are very easy to handle. As for breeding they are easier than the Boas. If I can be of any help please feel free to contact me at any time.

Thank you

I have about 50 marble eggs getting ready to hatch in the next week. I also have some pure Bangka's getting ready as well.

Thanks

There are some good caresheets on the VPI and NERD sites that explain all the temp/humidity requirements and stuff. That being said, Bloods are pretty simple for someone with a little snake experience under their belt, and I absolutely love all mine. None of the 10 I have are even remotely aggressive, and they can have great individual personalities, which makes things more interesting.

Proexotics has probably the best online caresheet for bloods and if you read around on bloodpythons.com you can also pick up most of what you'll need to know. In addition there are plenty of folks on this forum (Jeff being one of them) that are more than willing to talk bloods with you as much as you want. Here's an incredible blood I recently got from Jeff...

Hope this helps!
