What do they look like?Similar to a gnat?I noticed a few real tiny flying bugs in my snakeroom today.I use cypress mulch for my substrate and thought maybe they could of come from that but now I'm not sure.I've never had a problem with mites before so therefor I idn't know what they look like.
Thanx all,
Mike

Your small flies are probably fungus gnats. They feed off a fungus that grows in damp soil.

Mites don't fly, so it's definitely not that. It could either be fungus gnats as suggested or some of the plain old gnats that just seem to get in the cage. Had some show up as soon as it got warm. Harmless but a pain in the butt.

Ive heard of people actually putting new cypress mulch in the oven to kill off any gnats in it.

These gnats showed up without any cypress in the cage. They just ended up in there so I'm sure they flew in thru the screen on the snakeroom window. I occasionally get some wood mites in the cypress, which don't bother the snakes and I think will take care of any waste that I miss when spot cleaning. I just leave those alone. The gnats get nailed! Just cuz they annoy me
