What kind of boa is this?

envy_ld50 Jun 16, 2007 05:34 PM

I picked up this guy at a local reptile shop. AZ reptile center in Arizon. The snake was dubbed as very aggresive by the shop workers it had bit a lady who was holding it I guess. Anyways the sides are so beautiful with a mix of colors (Pink, Green, and Orange and the snake a has almost a pale backround with an odd saddle shape. He has been VERY aggresive in his encose Hissing ver very loud and striking the glass as I walk by. I have taken him out simply by using a Oven mit to pick him up and show dominance and once he out hes perfectly fine with being handeled for hours. Any ideas why and or what species he is?

I was thinking it looked more like a NIC?

The important thing here is not what subspecies of boa it is or where it is from, but that you get the blasted thing wormed. That is most likely the reason for its defensive(snakes are not aggressive) behavior. Showing dominance to a dog works well in training. Showing dominance to a snake gets your butt bit.

Greg,
You are absolutley right, getting the animal checked by a vet and a fecal done is always a priority with any new animal. However, being an identification forum, it cant hurt to discuss what type of B.c. it may be. Just my 2 cents.

Now for envy, here are a couple pics of my Costa Rican. I don't have a lot of experience with Nics but from the ones I've seen they tend not to be so orange esp. on the head and are usually much darker. I could be very wrong though. Hope the pics work!
