Rack Question

raveness_d Jun 17, 2007 02:27 AM

This may sound silly, (and please excuse my tender feet!), but I was wondering if it would be possible to use a rubbermaid/sterilite chest of drawers as a kind of rack system?

I keep seeing them everywhere, and the idea has crossed my mind.

Any thoughts?

Possibly but the ones that I have seen (maybe not the one you showed) have not been designed to keep boas in. There were places at the top where a BRB or other snake could perch or wedge itself into and prevent you from opening the drawer. Also, could possibly escape in gaps at the top. This one could be different but probably not. Needs the ribbing in the plastic roof to provide strength and visually the ribbing is better put facing the drawer.

I have one of those in one of my rooms and they simply do not have the structural integrity for a snake.

Small snakes could escape through gaps(they are not designed to be a perfect snug fit, just to keep stuff from falling out). And Boas or large snakes could easilyeither block it from opening or aply pressure to make a gap large enough to escape.

If you want to take a close up look to see if you could modify one or something they have em on the shelves in Target.

Although honestly I don't think it would be worth it because I suspect that you would have to put as much effort and money into retrofitting them as you would to just make a rack from scratch.

Hope was helpful.

Sean.

I figured there were reasons they weren't a good option, or more people might be using them.

Yes I did. Guilty as charged.

But, I also said WOODCOCK.

Missed a prime opportunity there!
