The Cuban Boa is the largest of the West Indian Boas of the genus Epicrates reaching lengths of over 12'. Their husbandry is very similar to Boa Constrictors. They breed in the spring [ March thru May] and babies are born in Aug. thru Oct. Offspring can measure up to 3' in length and they only have 4-6 young. Large ones are usually exceedingly tame and very hardy. Unfotunately there is not a lot of color or pattern differences and to date no morphs that I'm aware of. Nonetheless they are quite interesting and rewarding to keep. If you would like more info e-mail me with your phone # and I'll call you. thanks...Tom Crutchfield

Congrats! I have 1.1 myself (3 yo female and a 2 yo male). Not much out there especially on the breeding aspect. Mine are a bit flighty upon initial pickup but calm down once in hand. I keep a gradient from 86 to mid 70s and have them in 72"x30"18" cages.

Have you seen the bat eating pics online? Also some good older pics of a large WC adult from Gitmo are online as well.

Tom,

Any info you could share on cycling and what your experiences have shown as far as age and size for a mature pair would be appreciated. I'm looking to try pair mine up next year but don't have a good meetric on what breedable is.

Fingers crossed that you guys have some this year, I'm looking for 1.1 more.

Additionally Cuban Boas can take temps down in the low 50's with no problem as long as daytime temps rise to around 80 degrees. They are found virtually in all types of habitat from xeric areas to tropical jungle. They are very abundent in farming areas and Cuban Farmers call them "Maja". The primary food item in Cuba is an arboreal rodent called a Hutia but they eat a great variety of prey including an occasional Iguana[ Cyclura nubila]. Anyway good luck with your new aquisitions. Thank's everyone for your fast responce.
Thank's Tom for your offer but phonecalls over the pond can be expensive. I think most of my questions were answered except for one do they need cooling before mating if so what temps?
