Date of Enforcement

atrox182 Jun 17, 2007 09:57 AM

I made reservations months ago, before this ever started at motel in Alpine for August, made vacation plans, bought license when i was there in 06 for the 07 season as a lot of us have done iam sure. My question is will this not go into effect till Sept 1 or will TPW try to enforce this immediately? If so will they emburse us for the license since it was not for the full year? Thanks Clark

still a big question mark. I spoke with a warden in the field and he indicated there "may" be a grace period but he could NOT confirm that fact.

MOST LIKELY your first encounter with an enforcement agent in the field will include a warning. That's just a guess though, NOT advice to ignore the law. I'm fairly certain the top brass will give the word on when to go full ahead with enforcement, however, I'm also pretty sure if they are with belligerence and provoked in any way they can enforce this law immediately.

You may not like the idea, but how about calling the warden in the area you are staying right off and talking to him man to man and see what he says about that specific time frame when you arrive at your destination.

I need to say it again, these guys in the field are about 100x more understanding than some of the guys they recently replaced. They know this thing got dropped on us pretty quickly and that a lot of folks already bought licenses, tickets, and reservations.

those Wardens know that land as well as anyone. Ask them if they know of any areas in the county where you could legally collect (if that is what you are aiming to do). Also ask them if they are aware of any Land owners that would be willing to let you collect on their land for a fee.

I am having a small amount of luck finding places to go. I already had places in Val Verde, Terrell and Brewster to go collect legally, then I started talking to Land owners and about 25% are willing to either let me go free or for a small fee.

Right now I'm trying to arrange a large lease for May through September. Let the land owners know that you will clear out when the deer hunters arrive, they like the sound of that.

Joe, first i would like to thank you and everyone els who put in the time and effort to fight thie bill, as a nonresident i could only make the phone calls, evidently wasnt enough, but i think we need a date on this so everone will be on the same page. Do you think if i call the TPW they could give me a answer. I dont see how they can enforce this till after Sept 1, they have already sold the license for 07. If we go by what one warden says whos to say that the warden in the next county will not be totally different, one says now the outher says Sept 1. Thanks Clark

we do need clarification on date of enforcement. I think the answer you will get is that the law is on the books now, and now is the time to obey the law.

Best
Joe

I hope to have something definitive by Wednesday if you can wait that long.

I'll go public with it as soon as I get it. IT WILL BE INTERESTING to see whether I get the same answer after the Governor signed the bill. I hope so.
