A two bodied lizard.....

Travis4471 Jun 17, 2007 01:25 PM

So my collared lizard eggs hatched this week, at least six of them did out of seven. The last egg was in there a few more days and wasnt hatching so my dad decided to try and help it out. When the egg was opened we saw a fully developed two bodied baby collared lizard.Very crazy. Eight legs two tails and one head. Unfortunatly I think one of the legs strangled the little guy so he didnt make it but was still the wierdest thing I have ever seen. All other babies are fine and doing well. This baby was maybe a day from hatching. Has anybody seen this before? I have a picture but am not sure how to attach it. Would love to show everyone if you can give me some help on attaching it. Thanks...Travis

Hey Travis!
So sorry the little guy didn't make it, it would have been QUITE interesting to see how his/her life progressed. I'm dying to see a picture, so follow these instructions:
-At the top of the page, there is a tab for "Photos", right next to the "Forums" tab.
-Just above the bright red bar on the right, you will see an "upload photos" link... click there...log-in using your kingsnake.com username and password
-From there you will be able to select your category (Collard lizards in this case) and browse your files to upload the photo (be sure it isn't too big), describe it, and upload the photo.
From there you can return to the forums board to create a new message, and you will see now that you have a box below the "link URL, link title, and image URL" boxes for "Photos", and your photo(s) will be listed in there. I included a screen shot of what mine looks like so you know what it looks like when you do it right. Looking forward to photos of babies!

Nice to have you Travis, congratulations on the hatchlings that did make it, thats great! Hope we get a pic of them too. I'm sorry about the little dude that did not and all his problems.

It's a shame, but sometimes things happen weird, even with humans when born. I have an agama that was born last year missing his bottom half of his leg in the back , from the knee down. Guess your little one was better off not making it. Seems it sure would have had a difficult time.

As sad and as strange as this kind of birth/hatching is ,,,, it also is a bit interesting, have to wonder what went wrong. Guess it was twins and just went whacky. I have seen twin bearded dragons hatch in the same egg, very COOL.
