That looks like a Bullsnake, but also similar to a Sonoran Gopher (P.c. affinis). As for the locale, I'll take an uneducated stab in the dark, and say it's from somewhere in New Mexico.

Looks like a hypo Sonoran Gopher to me. That's just my first thought and I don't consider myself an expert. Where did you get it?
