Smotth Front

Justin Stricklin Aug 17, 2003 10:35 AM

I am looknig to get a smotth ront. i saw one at my local herp show that is a little over 3-4Ft maybe. It was $100, and I know that it is probably a good chance of having parisites and other crap wrong with it. Would you recommend me getting that if they have it up there next month and it is still fat and everything?I already have a pen buuilt. It was originally fro my turtles but i want to get some bath tubs and keep my turtles in there. The only reason I even bult it was that I wanted to breed my turtles but I'm having no luck, and have tried it fro nearly 3 years now. I just mainly have 2 big questionns 1.) the fence around it is 36"' high and has one board at the top of the fence nailed horizontal and another nail onto that one vertical. making the top of the fence look like a "U". Would it escape that or even try. 2.) CAn I just put a water heater in the botom of the water fro the winter or do i need to bring it in and put it in another inclosure, or will it like hibernate in the round in its burrow,I'v heard they like ot dig borrwos and stuff. If I can't fix any of this stuff to where I can keep one in it safely i will not get one. I just mainly want to see if I could right now. I have rea up on them and there care but just wanted to ask questions on those 2 things. I have kept so many herps so i know alot of what I'm doing. I have monitor lizards and snakes and stuff, I have over 150 animals in all, so I know the feeding costs. i know that it gets expensive I already use 15 or so rodents every 2 months. Please excuse the grammer. I usualy never use any when typign and I'm sleepy so just try to bear with me. Thanx in advance.

keep in mind how big they get (about 5ft) i think you sould make the fence higher and make sure the fence goes undergrownd a couple of feet because they like to dig... how big of a water area do you have? find out if the smooth front was wild caught or captive bred because if it was captive bred it most likely will not have parasites. if it was wild caught you should treat it for paracites. Also where do you live... how cold are the winters? remeber that they are from south america so they like it hot so it would not be a good idea to leave it out over winter. you will need to bring it inside for the winter so make sure your ready for that and once again hoe big they get. and most if not all are agressive. good luck!

if anyone else on this forum has anything to add disagree with please do
