Some questions I need answers to....

pspguy Aug 17, 2003 10:47 AM

Okay, I have 2 geckos that seem to prefer crickets, but I'd like them to eat mealworms as well. What is the best way to attract them to the mealworms? I feel they dont move fast enough to get my leos attention. Should I just alternate days from crix to mealworms, or should I put crix one day, mealies 2 days, back to crix 1 day etc...?? Also, is it true that secluded leos will gain weight better?? Should I put Abbie through the stress of moving her to her own tank until she puts on more weight??

Leos kept singly grow and gain weight MUCH faster as a rule. The slight stress of moving Abbie will be far outweighed by the benefits she will feel from being alone.

As for mealies if you feed nothing but mealies for a few days they will get used to them. Some people have used the trick of rubbing waxworm guts on the mealies, or swishing the mealies in the waxworm container so they pick up that scent, which geckos find irresistible.

What about the use of T-Rex's Cricket Maker scent additive?? Waxworms are kind of hard to come by in my part of the woods, and I haven't bothered to order any through the mail yet.

Sorry. I am not familiar with that product, so I can't say one way or the othre. Petco near me sells waxies. Try just feeding mealies for a few days, they'll eat then when they get hungry.
