Sorry there, I've been away for a while ... just read your post. If I wait a day or so before trying to remove an eye cap it's because I'm attempting to prove that it is still attached. I don't like to traumatize the eye/snake without cause. Otherwise I go at it pretty quick, but a day or three is not going to be lethal! To do the job I use a moistened Q-tip and gently massage the scales around the eye until I see the cap edge curling up. Then it usually just pops off. Prior to this I check every leaf, hiding spot, water dish and branch to make sure it's not there.
As for feeding, since pinkies don't have much calcium, I would make sure that the fish peices have some bone in them. With supplements like vitamins and powdered calcium, I never know exactly what they're getting. But here's a note. I've read that, if the pinkies are well fed and fat with milk, they will have lots of thiamin. In this case, it would be OK to offer some whole goldfish (if that's all you have available) which would balance his diet.
