POLL-What subtrate do you use?

Greg_Haugen Jun 19, 2007 11:12 AM

I'm just getting back into Reptiles after a six year absence. We had three daughters in that time and back then we had retics, alot of retics and didn't want to deal with that and children. I don't want to deal with freezers of rabbits, piglets, etc. any more so we're going to have Balls. So far there's 0.2 normal (490 and 790 grams), 1.0 '06 Het. Pied (Graziani), and a 1.0 '05 Pastel (Graziani). While talking with Greg G. subtrates came up and he recommended Cell-Sorb Plus (www.cell-sorb-plus.com). I'm going to give it a try- I've ordered #40. However, I'm curious what other subtrates you keep your Ball Pythons on??

Thanks for your time,
Greg

I use aspen, but it is getting harder for me to find locally so I may have to switch.

We also use newspaper, easy to find cheap easy to clean. I have in the past used aspen and cypress but always end up back at newspaper.

newspaper, especially anything with hollywood celeb photos.

I use care fresh pet bedding from Petsmart. It runs about 16-18 dollars per bag, but the bags last me a couple months. It is really absorbant and easy to clean.

Just remember.. No Cedar, Pine or Sand

cedar and Pine have oils that are Toxic to All snakes, and Sand with dry them out, get between their scales and or mouths, and could cause infection.

I like disposable cage liner. You can find it in the kingsnake classifieds. It soaks up very well. In my opinion, it soaks up better than newspaper. If you buy it in bulk rolls, then it is a reasonable price. Hope this helps...
