3 toed box turtle not eating well

shuggie728 Jun 19, 2007 02:06 PM

I have a female 3toed box turtle that was originall wild caught by her previous owner 7 years ago as an adult. I run a reptile rescue so she was surrendered to me, I have many years experience with box turtles and tortoises. Her temps and humidity are right and she has a very nice secure outside pen, I've had her vet checked, dewormed, beak trimmed, etc etc a little over a month ago when I first recieved her. Ever since I got her I've been having problems getting her to eat.
I've tried every fruit and vegetable out there, she won't even touch the strawberries, and her previous owner has said she was only eating tomatoes and she won't eat those for me either.
I've tried different dishes, no dishes, different sizes and places.
The only thing she will eat is mealworms and crickets but i have to hand fed them to her.

It's getting very frusterating and is worring me, any ideas or suggestions???

She's currently housed alone, any ideas on if she were to be housed with another box turtle and saw them eating greens, maybe she would catch on??

HELLO
THEY LOVE PINKIES
I VERY SELDOM GET ONE THAT WON'T EAT A PINKY " BABY MICE "
MIGHT SOUND BAD BUT THEY LOVE EM AND ARE VERY GOOD FOR THEM ESPECIALLY FOR LAYING FEMALES TO REPLACE CALCIUM LOSS DURING EGG PRODUCTION.
BABY FOOD ALSO WORKS
THE TROPICAL KIND WITH MEALWORMS AND NIGHT CRAWLERS MIXED IN THE BABY FOOD IN A DISH
GOOD LUCK

Sorry for the previous post as I neglected to notice my paste...Baby food? How is that beneficial to a reptile? The rest you post here is a normal and healthy diet for a box turtle, except baby food.
