I'm back with breeding q's and O/T pics

Hey all, I feel bad to disappear for a while and then come back with questions. What are we all up to? I see from the subject matter it much be baby season.

Some time last week Roz began to develop her beautiful peach-turned-fire orange colors and Hurley started his head bobbing. After having collareds for almost 6 years, I'm really excited to finally have a compatible male/female pairing. Last Friday I walked into my room to find Hurley head bobbing, chasing Roz down- he grabbed her neck, and my instinct was to shoo him away but (feeling strangely voyeuristic) I watched to see if he followed through... and I think he did... based on the 40 seconds that ensued (poor girl).

So with that said, if all goes well, I'm looking at a nearly definate known date of conception; as of today she had a full shed. In how many weeks should I prep a damp box for her? I don't know what the gestation period is for these guys. Is it even called gestation when it involves eggs?

And O/T, I went to the venomous show in Hamburg PA the 9th, have complete lack of self control and picked up a Meller's chameleon who seemed so sweet at the show till I got him home. So here's a pic of gravid Roz and Zoe in his *angry* colors!

Glad to see ya! If they mated then it will only take about 22 -24 days for her to lay her eggs. Sometimes a few days eariler/ a few days later, but in that area.

She will eat like a CHAMP, and then suddenly not be interested when the time approaches to lay, week or few days before. Also she will begin to dig here and there. So it's best to prepare a nest for her at anytime NOW, so she can get used to it and know where to go when shes' ready.
Just keep the sand dampened for her. And no matter how wonderful of a nest you provide, sometimes the girls will pick their own spot. If you see her go someplace else and dig, just leave a pile of dampened sand in that spot.

Best wishes, hope they mated, and you get some nice eggs. Let us Know.

Hey I like your new Mellers also, COOL dude for sure. I'm very much into chameleons also, have a male panther, sadly my female just passed away about 3 weeks ago from being eggbound. Anyway he looks pretty neat, quite big fellows they are! See ya on the chameleon forum, hehehehe lol

Hey Eve! My mom has offered a bowl for a nest spot, so I'll get that ready soon. They're in their NJ cage (only 20 gal, poor things) so I hope she waits till we get back to Miami to lay. I'll have to check the calendar and hope for the best.
I'm excited, but worried too because I don't want to get excited and have it turn out she's not pregnant, or worse, that she is and I mess something up and it's all for nothing. Stress! This should be quite a learning experience.

So sorry to hear about the panther! I still miss my little Caleb, he fought so hard and it just wasn't enough- I swore I was done with chameleons. I lied.

See you guys soon!

That is a sweet chameleon...looks a bit angry. I'll tell you the trick I told Eve...show it its relfection in the mirror. Just don't do it too often as it really seems to fire them up. I'm not sure if this works for the females or not. For my male veiled, he would fire up with some serious color in no time at all.

Oh man, he walked around my back the other night so I went to the mirror to see where he was to grab him.... fired up he was, lol. Not nearly as bad as when I tried to take him out to show him off, but he sure wasn't a fan of himself. He's supposed to top out at about 2 feet, so I'll be excited to see how that goes. He'll get to take over a big (BIG) cage when we get back to Miami, I'll be making a Home Depot trip for a little building project...
