Define Power feeding.......

diggy415 Jun 19, 2007 09:20 PM

I feed my 7' boa a large rat every week, i then feed her a med rabbit once every few months. Can this be considered powerfeeding? i personally think not. Would a more likely routine be feeding every 3-4 weeks? Im talking about adults here by the way, as babies are once a week.

Unless she is not an 05 I do not think so.

I feel the term is most often used to describe a boa that has over fed in order for it to become breedable in the shortest tine possible. Usually females when your talkin boas.

Good question I'd like to hear what other people think.

Doesn't sound like power feeding to me. Just watch the snake. You want them to be healthy without being obese.

An example of power feeding is when someone tries to get a female boa to breeding size by 2 years. It takes a lot of food to get a boa to hit 6ft, 15-20 lbs in just two years. Its just not healthy.

Those that do wont post anything,
Proper "Quality" and Size of prey are the keys to healthy animals
Here we feed 14 days from 1st shed to 12 months, then rotate 14/21 days to 3 years for the Centrals Americans. Three years of age and up 21 days minimum(3wks).
Breeders females get a differnt regime.
The condition of our animals speak for themselves
Hopefully it will afford them another 5-6 years of life over the "standard/accepted" methods used by most today.

I feed everything less than a year old every 7-10 days and adults get feed @ every 2 weeks. This varies somewhat with breeder females. Power feeding just makes them fat and shortens thier lifespan. I have seen boas that where so overweight they had trouble coling.
