jaflores85 Jun 19, 2007 09:32 PM

Hi everyone. I was hiking in the mountains of Alamogordo New Mexico almost 2 years ago and ran straight into a rattlesnake. the odd thing though was i have never seen a lime green rattle snake before or have i been able to find any pictures on the internet of one. i have seen my fair share of rattlesnakes while living in alamogordo, nm, but i am no expert. i wish i had a camera but unfortunetly i did not have one because it was such a beautiful snake. can anyone pleae help identify it.
thanks

It was probably a Banded Rock Rattlesnake. Can you give a size and pattern description?

it was maybe between 2 to 3 feet and i don't really remember the patterns. only what i can faintly remember as black rigid stripes maybe about 1 to 2 inches apart. i just googled banded rattle snake and the picture definitely looks like that snake. thanks alot, greatly appreciated. now i can tell my friend we weren't just hallucinating under the hot new mexico sun : P.

If this snake was between 2 and 3 feet long, sounds more like a blacktail rattlesnake. They get really green down in the Davis Mtn's. of Texas
