I second that statement in regards to Jeff. I was VERY pleased with my purchase and his customer service. The female get's redder and redder every shed. The male used to be orange. One time he shed and turned EXTREMEY anery-looking, even his ventral saddles are subdued and they where black in coloration, still black but clouded looking. Docile as well, I wouldn't put her near my or someone else's face.
Once again Welcome and stick around, it gets amusing around here, believe me.
My question....
Are your Gila's, Heloderma suspectum cinctum ?
Also please post an off topic pic of your Gila's, they are not allowed in my state ( never have been, in my lifetime, all venomous animals are prohibited without first getting a "Special Permit", but I refuse to complain.
We ( NJ ) have some of the fairest government officials in the country, especially when you compare NJ rules, pertaining to Pythons & Boas. Last time I heard, one cannot by the letter of the law even keep a Ball / Royal Python, yep illegal in all 5 bouroughs, outside of the 5 bouroughs is quite different, NY state law catagorizes Python reticulatus, Python m. bivittatus, Python sabae, Morelia a. kinghorni, and any snake over 9 feet, as a potentially dangerous animal, therefor prohibited. But at least they ( outside of 5 bouroughs ) can keep smaller species like Rainbows for example.
NJ grandfathers people like me who obtained the animals before they amended the state laws. So, since I had my anacondas already on my permit, I got to keep them. The other large snakes have same rules like they used to, they just marked all species of anacondas as potentially dangerous. Btw, a lot of people do not know that the Fish & Game are a decent lot.
They just expect us to "OBEY THE LAW"
To be honest, I truly believe there are people who should not be allowed to keep Green Anacondas. That's a lot of snake to handle on your own. Please no smoke ( u know where ), ALL keepers at one time or another service their larger snakes solo.
As long as you are careful and stick with the basics, you will most likely only get bit occasionally ( can't say we would never get bit, eventually you will and be glad it wasn't a Many banded Krait ( Bungarus multicinctus )
I do not believe "hots" should be kept in a "private home" that is located in a residential neighborhood. Well unless you have escape proof cages, in an escape proof room, in an escape proof house. They should also require people to pass a safety protocol test. It would make since to grandfather clause amended regulations. NJ has an "uncommon sense" ( comparative to a majority of other states )
My reasoning is about an escapee, lets say...a Cobra. Somehow this snake somehow manages to escape it's enclosure, next the room, then finally your house / apartment then it envenomates your neighbors 4 year old child while she was playing in what is supposed to be a "safe zone", her Yard.
I had a Black Rat snake escape from it's enclosure, from the room, from the my house. My brother found it constricting a sparrow in our backyard. Imagine a cobra mimicking that scenario. Every python I have that is over 9 feet are located in a locked ( sliding lock home depot ) enclosure, they have an entire room dedicated to them. ( not free roaming )
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH :e

in case you are wondering....Many banded Krait
