With that collection of epicrates.. you don't post here?? Shame shame.. you are not allowed to keep that many rainbows and not share pics here regularly - It is written in the care sheets I think..

BTW - I have to agree, customer service is hard to come by.. and when you find it, it makes things so much easier. Jeff is one of kind and certainly makes this forum a better place!

and where are the pics huh??? Jeff is a great guy with great animals too and he has all kinds of diversity among the rainbows over there so that makes Jeff the man (driving that Blue Corvette helps too) Now I expect some pics but throw in some of those het hypos too if you don't mind. You got them from Mike, EBV.... Anyways sorry for the demands but please post those beauties and any other snake you like that you have pics of too while you're at it
Bob

I purchased the het hypos from Robert Seib this last year. When I manage to get a digital camera and a internet connection at home I'll take some pictures and post.

Welcome to the forum!

I bought a male BRB from Jeff, and very happy with the snake and with dealing with him. I am glad that he is starting to post pictures of his animals.

I am also in the midwest (northern Illinois) and have some 100 Het for hypo BRB's too.

Jeff K,
....Thank you for the business and the VERY nice comments. Please join in on our fun forum. We often go off topic and some PICs and information about your other snakes would be very welcome here. I used to catch and keep Eastern Indigos but have not been able to keep them here in the south for over 30 years. I always think about someday getting some Texas Indigos.

I second that statement in regards to Jeff. I was VERY pleased with my purchase and his customer service. The female get's redder and redder every shed. The male used to be orange. One time he shed and turned EXTREMEY anery-looking, even his ventral saddles are subdued and they where black in coloration, still black but clouded looking. Docile as well, I wouldn't put her near my or someone else's face.

Once again Welcome and stick around, it gets amusing around here, believe me.

My question....

Are your Gila's, Heloderma suspectum cinctum ?

Also please post an off topic pic of your Gila's, they are not allowed in my state ( never have been, in my lifetime, all venomous animals are prohibited without first getting a "Special Permit", but I refuse to complain.

We ( NJ ) have some of the fairest government officials in the country, especially when you compare NJ rules, pertaining to Pythons & Boas. Last time I heard, one cannot by the letter of the law even keep a Ball / Royal Python, yep illegal in all 5 bouroughs, outside of the 5 bouroughs is quite different, NY state law catagorizes Python reticulatus, Python m. bivittatus, Python sabae, Morelia a. kinghorni, and any snake over 9 feet, as a potentially dangerous animal, therefor prohibited. But at least they ( outside of 5 bouroughs ) can keep smaller species like Rainbows for example.

NJ grandfathers people like me who obtained the animals before they amended the state laws. So, since I had my anacondas already on my permit, I got to keep them. The other large snakes have same rules like they used to, they just marked all species of anacondas as potentially dangerous. Btw, a lot of people do not know that the Fish & Game are a decent lot.

They just expect us to "OBEY THE LAW"

To be honest, I truly believe there are people who should not be allowed to keep Green Anacondas. That's a lot of snake to handle on your own. Please no smoke ( u know where ), ALL keepers at one time or another service their larger snakes solo.

As long as you are careful and stick with the basics, you will most likely only get bit occasionally ( can't say we would never get bit, eventually you will and be glad it wasn't a Many banded Krait ( Bungarus multicinctus )

I do not believe "hots" should be kept in a "private home" that is located in a residential neighborhood. Well unless you have escape proof cages, in an escape proof room, in an escape proof house. They should also require people to pass a safety protocol test. It would make since to grandfather clause amended regulations. NJ has an "uncommon sense" ( comparative to a majority of other states )

My reasoning is about an escapee, lets say...a Cobra. Somehow this snake somehow manages to escape it's enclosure, next the room, then finally your house / apartment then it envenomates your neighbors 4 year old child while she was playing in what is supposed to be a "safe zone", her Yard.

I had a Black Rat snake escape from it's enclosure, from the room, from the my house. My brother found it constricting a sparrow in our backyard. Imagine a cobra mimicking that scenario. Every python I have that is over 9 feet are located in a locked ( sliding lock home depot ) enclosure, they have an entire room dedicated to them. ( not free roaming )

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH :e

in case you are wondering....Many banded Krait

like them things lol just pulling your leg. Any idea where Dave is at? I believe that hots are not for residential people also and should be kept in facilities only. What is so bad about that snake biting you huh? Oh yeah get a CAMERA so we can see the brb and that color change too if you don't mind

Two of my gilas are cinctum, I'll get some pictues up for you when I manage to borrow a digital camera and an get internet connection at home(coming soon, I just moved). I use my computer at work to follow the forum. For the most part I agree with your post, I'm fortunate enough to live in a state that has no laws against keeping gilas. There are local laws, but I live in an area that does not have any that interfere with my interests. Gilas are much like cats in their behavior, very easy to keep and handle if you have a little experience. You just always have to remember that they have the potential to ruin your day. As far as the snakes, I've kept large venomous in the past and they are not for me! I'll stick to the pigmys!

Jeff

FRoberts Jun 21, 2007 12:22 PM

I think Gila's should be legal to posses, but, have to take the good with the bad regarding our laws. You will have a VERY hard time convincing me the average hobbyists should be keeping most venomous species. There are exceptions, I personally know people who should be able to keep them and at the same time I know people that shouldn't be allowed. But the escape proof part of my opinion cannot be changed. Gila's are a LOT different than a Black Mamba, If it where legal, I would have Gila's in my LIVING room.

I would never own something that dangerous, because I know better! Some folks shouldn't be allowed to breed let alone have venomous reptiles!

Liann Jun 21, 2007 02:33 PM

"Some folks shouldn't be allowed to breed let alone have venomous reptiles!"

Lol, so true!!!

On the subject of hots, I saw plenty of them at Hamburg a few weeks ago. Gaboon vipers, spitting cobras, you name it. I just shook my head and wondered who buys them. I certainly wouldn't want to live next to someone who keeps Gaboons and Cobras even though I think they are completely awesome snakes. I do know of someone about 4 miles from me (who is a very responsible breeder/keeper) who has a variety of hots though. I often wonder if his neighbors have any idea!

"Some folks shouldn't be allowed to breed let alone have venomous reptiles!"

I couldn't agree more.. unfortunately, often those same folks are the ones that own the hots.. which is why those laws are there.. to protect those that are to stupid to protect themselves..

and i agree with you. the laws in NJ are reasonable. The fish and game people have always been helpful to me. Hots are just too dangerous in residential neighborhoods. The risk to others is too great.A bad incident could ruin the hobby for all of us.Rin
