California Snake ID

My homie caught this snake and we were wondering what it was. It was in her house and I'm thining of keeping it.

If I had to guess, and I've never been to that area so have no experience with your local herps, I'd say it looks like a Diablo Range Gartersnake (Thamnophis atratus zaxanthus). Definitely Thamnophis though, somebody who knows the snakes of that area should confirm or correct my identification.

It is a garter snake. They eat fish, frogs, toads, earthworms, but not insects.

Just FYI from your pick it looks like that snake has a at least one decent sized tick on it, if you didn’t notice already..

Actually, that's a valley garter...t s fitchi. has the red spots on the side by the lower stripe.
