misting systems

artogator Jun 20, 2007 01:54 PM

I am thinking of getting an automatic misting system soon. I was wanting to know what kind anyone uses? I need it for two 18"x18"x36" cages. I have been looking at the the pro-mist and mist king systems so far. Also if anyone knows where I can find plans and buy the stuff to build my own and save some money. I looked at lowes and I didn't find a good pump, or a multi setting timer.

I setup a patio mist system from Walmart with a dual water timer.Makes a fine heavy mist. I turn it on the morning and evening it handles the rest in between. I did 10 cages for 45.00
My setup is outside but with a little thought could be converted indoors with a pump and a electric timer.
Good Luck

You can get systems and/or components for misting systems from Ecologic Technologies. If you are mechanically challenged like I am, there are several all inclusive systems (RainMaker Jr) that have everything you need to set up a nice one that has the pressure to mist cages up to 30' apart. Good pumps, pressure hose, misting nozzles, multi-setting timers, etc. I have used my RainMaker Jr. for about 10 years.

I'm usually pretty well mechanically apt, it's really just a matter of finding the right parts, and ones that will work together. I looked at those plant basket systems, like at wal mart, seems like it could work with a timer, and some adapters for a resevour instead of the spicket. Honestly, I think it may be worth it to just by a complete system, after buying everything seperatly it may be about the same, except with more headache.

So, about the misting nozzles, Do they create a mist that will allow the chams to drink, or are they more for humidity? They all say "super fine mist"I want to be able to leave my chams unattended for more than a few hours, like maybe a day and a half? They are both adults. Sorry for the long post.

The RainMakers nozzles will definitely create enough water droplets to provide drinking water depending on how long your cycles are. The nozzles may be fine mist, but they produce a lot of water under pressure. If your cages are well planted there should be plenty of droplets.

I thought about assembling my own system too, but like you, I found that it probably wouldn't save all that much $.
