I love the looks of this girl but give up trying to breeding her. She is an offspring from the original pair of unrelated S. Crumbley red bulls. I attempted to breed her and her sibling this year and last but she tries to throw the male hard every time I have put them together no matter what tricks I've tried. I've never had a pit that would not eventually give in. As much as I hate it I'll be giving someone else a try. Randy

Thats a shame because that female is very nice indeed, love the red/orange wash on her.
I have a couple of Fem S.D gopher that do the same sort of thing, with one being slightly worse than the other.
Fortunately i have a strong heavy male that takes no prisoners and usually grabs the female by the neck almost instantly upon introduction. The less aggresive males seem to just get thrown off and sometimes give up more readily i find.

The other trick i've employed is to cool females down for a few hours prior to introducing males, this sometimes makes them less active and therefore less 'pumped up' so to speak.

I'm sure you've tryed ever trick and i hope you get some luck soon Randy, it would be sad to let her go for you.

Great looking animal. How certain are you that she is a she? The only time I have encountered that was male on male action. The tail looks a bit long in the photo....

Try putting a female in with "her" next year before you give up altogether..otherwise send her to me....LOL

Best of Luck, Ginter

Well I guess I get the BREEDERS DIP STICK OF THE YEAR award. I've always been good about double checking the sexes on pairs if I dont see any breeding activity or have reason to question their sexes. When I got this "pair" I watched someone with lots of pit breeding experience sex them and felt confident of their sex but never probed them myself to be sure. I just probed the snake pictured and guess what. I dont think I have to say it. I am truly embarrassed that I didn't probe him before I posted this.
This is why I pop and then probe all my hatchlings that dont pop male just to be sure. I pop pairs I buy now after I get them too but obviously didn't do this a few years ago. Randy W.

Yeah, the only time I saw that behavior was when I put two male bimaris together. The "female" was this totally beautiful orange snake with solid black saddles that did not fade mid body. I got "her" on loan and tossed the snake in with my male only to get that jumpy, figity, "mom, brians touching me" sort of behavior. Fortunetly I got him in with my female in time, unfortunetly he died in some one elses care prior to me being able to breed him back to one of his daughters and I am having difficulty isolating that look in his siblings. I can get the orange and I can get the dark sadles but not on the same snake.

This snake pitured is one of his sons.

My girl's Dad is almost that nice, and I have some young males coming up that should be better. I'd love that male to save me a year of waiting, BUT that guy sounded like the "woman" in his previous relationship - I'd want a REAL man for that much money.....lol.
