What do you think he is?

iamsnakeshack Jun 20, 2007 03:34 PM

This is a 55” male of unknown age I got recently. I was told what he is but I thought I would get some opinions (and guesses) on what you all think he is. Sorry the pictures don’t show the pink hue, I took them at 7am this morning.

I will post, “allegedly”, what he is after a few opinions.

Thanks for looking and playing along.

My guess is colxcentral of some sort. My guess is you were told anery, but he is not, just dark. Just guesses though. Craig Kade

I knew it wasn’t Anery, but I guessed he had some Central in him also. I have a friend with a female Central that could be his sister…well, his good-looking sister.

By the way his belly is pretty dark and heavily speckled.

Oh, of course!

I was told that it was an Argentine/ Columbian Red-tail hybrid, but I think it looks like a Central/ ?. He said he was sure but didn’t know how old he was, sounds fishy to me. I think it’s a new sub species; Boa constrictor Norcalis. Norcalis was carefully, randomly, bred from the finest pet shop stock of Northern CA. to produce the perfect pet…just ask my 9 year old.

I am not sure about your snake, but I have seen argentine X colombian intergrades, it was obvious when I saw them that they where mixes, looking at yours I would also have to say central american and Columbian Red-tail intergrade.

Regardless he/she is a nice boa!!

The intergrades I saw of the argentine / columbian where very nice looking, aberrant pattern, consisting of both parents in one snake, these are not hybrids, they are subspecies and therefore intergrades. Columbian X Dumeril Boa for example would be a hybrid. Never saw one, but I have heard they exist.

I would not mind seeing one.

I almost purchased the argentine/columbian intergrade.

It was very nice looking snake. But he wanted too much money for it.

That’s right, an intergrade. I’m used to using intergrade when commenting on my Carpets, but I sort of fell into using Hybrid when discussing Boas.

I have noticed that the darker Boas (Argentines, Mexicans, Centrals) aren’t very popular on this forum, or in general. I have seen some beautiful, dark Argentines with almost bright pink ascents and some dark, but very nicely contrasting, Centrals. I guess the in thing is hypos, ghosts, albinos and snows. Of coarse I have a little of that with my new Coral.

Thanks for the complement on my mix; I’ll get a better picture later in the day AFTER I get a cup of coffee next time.

I keep those except argentines, but there is a very good chance I may be given 1.2 from a friend who's Argentine appears to be gravid. If she drops I will get them!!

Another female boa droped 18 babies, my friend is giving me 2.1 from that litter for certain. I wanted a reverse trio because I have two female BCI and no males to mate them to.

Below link shows that litter and a short story

Great story! It’s nice to have friends like that! My good friends are like brothers and I’ve known them since I moved to CA out of school 22 years ago. We use the barter system too. I made a deal with a new friend for a 4 year Corel Albino female; he’s going to school to become a vet so I got him a nice Nikon microscope. I think it was good for both of us!

I’ve always been intrigued by the Mexican Sonora Boas. I wouldn’t mind taking a herping trip down to Mexico and trying to see some up close. I just don’t see to many on the market.

Lately I’ve been looking at Cancuns. I love the tight pattern of circles all the way down to the tip of the tail. I almost got one a few weeks ago from the classifieds, should have!

Please keep me in mind if you have any births from your Centrals and Mexicans.

Oh, and you have to post some pics!

FRoberts Jun 21, 2007 07:10 PM

The Centrals and Mexicans those are my friends, I currently only have two female BCI, I keep mostly Pythons, I do have other types of boas and various colubrids. So this year I will have a total of 5 bci, he is giving me 3, only one female is sexual mature, so it will be some time before the nre males will be ready. Thanks for the kind words and good luck on all your current and future projrcts.

Here is an excerpt of my collection :

Nice collection! You have some of my favorites! I had an Australian faze for a wile. I think I’m going to go dark Boa, with an Albino side project, for a now.

My collection has more pythons than boas also but is not as big as yours. I’m really bad about taking the time to take pictures and think I’ll take at least one of everybody this weekend, if I remember. I have some old pictures of a couple of my snakes I will include; I can’t believe they were ever that small.

This is my humble list:

1.0 Boa mutt
0.1 Coral albino Boa (on it’s way)
1.1 Jungle Carpet Python (one yellow and black and one white and black banded)
1.0 Irian Jaya Carpet Python
1.1Ball Pythons
0.1 Sumatran Blood Python
0.1 Hypomelanistic Corn/ garbage disposal

who are you?

by this I mean are you a breeder who sells snakes?

in particular the jungles?

I have seen your snakes on a page, I am certain, probably kingsnake, but perhaps not ( one fact about the Internet I HATE, I peruse so much stuff, I get mixed up about where I saw the pictures.)

Oh I want your blood female. ( I have only two males, had 3, but gave one to a good friend )

One yellow phase.

One I am not sure, never seen anything like him, he was won at Philly NARBC show auction (first one I think) Donated by pro exotics, he is unreal color wise, copper/orange/red/golden brown, I think would describe his coloration, nope I have no pictures, I am not the gadget savvy type, I own no camera and all my pictures where taken by my friends or original person I got the snakes from.

I need to get one, only a small percentage of my collection has been photographed even once. Only young to old photo I have is my one northern snapping turtle, I have two, and 1 spiny sotfshell and a few frogs, just 1 african clawed, 1 African bullfrog, and 1 albino pacman...used to be into arrow poison frogs...."Herp Crack" is what they where to me....I needed an intervention
