What is it?

SnakesAndStuff Jun 21, 2007 12:33 AM

Here are a few pics of a snake that I don't see many pictures of. Does anyone here want to take a guess as to what it is?

The first pic is an individual in the wild, and the second is a captive shot (these animals are very variable in color/pattern).

Hahahah... I just got off of the phone with Randal and he agrees with your ID of the snake and wanted me to say that Ladnar says hello!

Geeze... Now everytime I talk to Randal he's gonna be talking about randalberryensis and how great they are!

Bothrops moojeni....

SnakesAndStuff Jun 21, 2007 02:21 PM

Not a moojeni! But here is a pic of a moojeni

Heres a hint, like its namesake it lives in a small world[island], its probably inbred because of its small range, and I believe they occasionally drink beer. What do you think Ladnar? Tom Crutchfield

Is it B.microphthalmus?

The correct answer is Bothrops caribbaeus. The St. Lucian Lancehead.

These are quite interesting animals that are sister taxa with Bothrops lanceolatus, and in my opinion one of the most curious and interesting Bothrops (or snake of any kind for that matter).
