bronzback salamanders before dart frogs?

kcaiman Aug 17, 2003 01:57 PM

i have had a 30gal tank set up for dart frogs and am just waiting until the next reptile show to pick some up but before i do would it be alright if i put some broz back salamanders in there first? they're fairly common around my house and was wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea... i know how not supposed to put different amphibians together and all but was wondering if i could put these in there until i get my dart frogs being that these salamanders only get around 3 inches long.
thanks in advance for any responses!

sorry for the long post

Save it for your darts. It's unlikely that a set up that is ideal for dart frogs would suit most salmanders. (I don't know the requirements of bronze backed salamanders, however.) I wouldn't chance the salamanders contaminating the tank, either.

I wouldn't do it...the potential risk to the darts is too great. You would be putting wild caught animals into the enclosure...these probably have parisites, etc which will be released into the enclosure.

You would expose your darts to those germs. Basically you would be housing the animals together due to the cross contamination.
