mealworm Aug 17, 2003 02:03 PM

Hi,

I have 2 ball pythons and a bearded dragon. I keep them in a double shelf stand for 55 gal tanks.. so about 4 feet long and 15 inches wide... the snakes cage is divided. Anyway, I'll be going to college next year and now Im thinking about college and stuff.. but I worry about my pets. I wouldnt and couldnt leave them with my parents, and I dont want to give them away. Has anyone have or had reptiles in college with no problem?

thanks!!

you could try to get away with it. You could name them all fish 1, fish 2, fish 3 ect.. so ppl wont firgure anything out when you are talking lol.

Most colleges make you live in a dorm your freshmen year. But they cant stop you from living in an apartment but you would have to pay for your dorm anyways.

sorry this is unorganized im in a rush.

Well, I'm not going away unless I get some really good money partially because of my animals. I think if you got a private room you could get away with it. Depending on who you were with also. It would be easier to hide your snakes. They could be kept in underbed boxes or plastic bins. It would be much easier I think also if they ate frozen mice. Otherwise it would be kinda odd to be sneaking in mice every week. With frozen you could just bring in a little fridge and set it so that it works as a freezer. It wouldn't be a bad idea though to start looking for a person to take them if you can't keep them.

Sorry to be responding a little late, but I just read your message. I actually bought my first bearded dragon while at college, and I have absolutely no problems with her. You just have to make sure she gets a lot of love and attention even though you will be busy with classes and friends. I started with a 10 gal and then bought a 30 something gal. The only thing is that I was fortunate enough to have a huge walk-in closet to keep my little girl in, so the temp was perfect and she had her own little room. Plus no one knew about her cause I kept the door closed when we had inspections, however if you don't have something like that to hide yours in, you might want to reconsider. But if you can get away with it I'd say do it, cause I loved coming home from class to play with her...it was something to look forward to. Can't say I know anything about snakes though and that sounds like it might be too many pets for one dorm. Sorry wish I could help out more, but the beardie situation shouldn't be a problem for college if you have a room like I described to keep it in. Good luck!!!
