ATB, ETB, or GTP which is better for me

LordDreyfus Jun 21, 2007 11:04 AM

I've raised snakes for 11 years now. Lots of experience with "regular" boas, pythons and the like. I've never owned a tree boa. I was thinking of picking one up at the big florida show. Which one would you recommend for an intermediate keeper? I've done research on them all, but research isn't as good as hands on.

Emeralds....my favorite. I really want one of these. How do they compare to the GTP? Easier or harder to keep/breed. I don't like incubating eggs.

ATB...I like them, but not as much as the ETB. I hear they are more hardy though.

Any thoughts?

my favs are the atbs and gtps,i also hate waiting for eggs to hatch and the complications with them.but i think i veer away from emeralds because i feel threatend of the difficulty of keeping them, but i think there not as hard to keep as there rep tells about them.

So GTPs are easier to keep than ETBs? Do you have, or know where to find, any more information about this? I would appreciate it. Thanks for responding!

IMO Emeralds are easiler to take care of than the Green Trees. Having kept both, they share the same heat/humidy/caging requirments plus if you match a Biak to a Norethern you've pretty much have the same temperment. Where the Emeralds win out is in metabolism. They're slow rollers and eat every two weeks whereas a Chondro eats every 7-10 days. That equates to just about double feedings which means double cleanings and more opportunites to smell a sweaty BM. Emeralds win out I say!

My suggestion is to get what you are really interested in. I keep emeralds exclusively and find that once the environmental parameters are met, the are no more difficult to keep than any other species. I don't like atbs or gtps, so I started into arboreals with emeralds.
