what kind should i get?

Abbya Aug 17, 2003 02:06 PM

i have a gorgeous corn snake and she's great, but corns are not content to just sit in one place while you hold them. they pick a direction and go for it. im looking for a snake that will hang on my shoulders all day.
im told cali kings are content to stay in one place for a long time, so i think i may get one of them. problem is i think kings are ugly. are there any other really docile snake that are pretty like corns?
thanks

There are a few snakes that will be a little less flighty than a corn, like perhaps a ball python....but hanging on your shoulders all day is really not a good idea. Some snakes do not mind some handling, but none should be handled for extended periods of time. If by hanging on your shoulders all day, you were thinking of taking the snake out in public, please re-think that. Some people are really deathly afraid of snakes..any snake...and coming in contact with one, even if it's obviously tame & hanging on you can cause a really dangerous situation.

Have you considered a hognose snake? I just got a beautiful baby western hognose snake that doesn't mind being handled, I also have a desert king that is a doll to handle as well, however I must say to steer clear of milksnakes as most of them are not good for handling, my hondurans especially...also if you think kings are ugly snakes you should look into it more, IMHO Colubrids (Kings and milks) are among the prettiest of snakes, for example take a look at a Blair's phase grey banded kingsnake or tangerine honduran milksnakes.
