Funny, no mention of how the snake-related parts of the bill got attached to HB 12...Man, I just keep getting more and more pissed about this!

From the article...
>>>Texas law long has prohibited discharging a firearm or taking any game animal or game bird from a public road or right-of-way.

But it has not prohibited hunting without a firearm or taking non-game wildlife from these areas.

In many rural areas of the state, people travel back roads and "hunt" snakes, other reptiles and non-game wildlife.

Mostly, this hunting from public roads and rights-of-way is done by commercial and private collectors who capture the wildlife alive and either keep the animals for personal use or sell them in what has become a burgeoning market. Rattlesnakes and some highly sought-after species such as gray-banded kingsnakes are particular targets.

A provision of HB 12 will prohibit this practice by making it illegal to hunt "a wild animal or bird when the person is on a public road or right-of-way."

We need to all post responses to this ill informed article. This may be the openning we needed to get a REAL article on HB12.

Now everybody else needs to point out that very very few people are "commercial" collectors... And that nothing was done to regulate that it is like saying nobody else in the world can fish anymore because popeye was selling all the fish he found.

We need to get the tunnel vision off these guys and let them see the whole / real picture.

I actually emailed Tompkins and the other outdoor writer in the Chronicle a few times early in the game...each time outlining how things went down, the supposed 'reasons' given, etc. They either did not read the emails or did not feel it necessary to include the info in the article.

Everybody put in a couple of cents in the comments...

So far nobody is saying anything good about HH and his pet legislation. Let's overwhelm it and keep it tuned in for the non-herper...
