Hello all,

To see how many here (posters and readers) are "sitting on varanid eggs right now, have lost some this year or have hatched some? Just curious to see- had a discussion earlier this year about education making a difference... Maybe, maybe not- let's see... By the way, FR is exempt!(HaHA!) Best to you all- Mike
P.S.- Mary and I have a pair of crocs breeding and activity in half grown Savs but no varanid eggs this year yet(Lots of other herp eggs)- Female croc that was gravid failed(I failed her) but is still alive and well.

Nothing cooking right now.
My rudis have been busy though. I mean, almost for 3 whole days.
I couldn't take pics. One, my daughter ran off with my camera.
Kids and camp, hmmmphhh........
Two, they were up as high as they could get and I didn't want to spook them and make them stop.

Good news is, I aint got a wife to muck with the eggs and kill them all off.

Who needs TV when ya have lizard porn? hahahaha

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

My female Argus(V.Panoptes hornii) has just layed yesterday.Last year she layed 3 clutches of 6 -8 eggs. After a long incubation period (almost 6 months)Only 4 survived but i hope to have better luck this year.

My ackies have thrown two infertile clutches at me in the past two and a half months. One of those eggs from the first clutch, however, is around 80 days in, and still looks good (full and white...ish).

I may have caught a glimpse of my pair locked this morning, as my male was on top of my female before he shot into a burrow (he's a wimp), and the female was left there in a position that she could of been breeding in (tail bent off to one side, as if the male's tail could have been wrapped under it). Anyway, my fingers are crossed that something good will come of this energy my female keeps exerting.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hello Kap10 & VR,
That is great! Two more heading in the right direction with these animals is great! There are more out there too... I remember JME had some lacey eggs this year- and between this forum and another great forum the numbers are at least looking promising- still early though... Best to you all- Mike

This is what Neal's storrs look like now.

They are really cool Neal. Glad i got them. My female is still not liking my male too much. She will not let him get within 4 inches of her without her bolting. Any farther than that she is fine. Just no touching. I have not seen fighting but still nothing too good. Hopes are up that i will get lucky and they will like eachother.

But they are a ton of fun. I tried "taming" them a little as in they have to crawl up my arm before they eat. I will then give them a cricket when they are up there. The only problem is while taking the cricket they will do the wipe thing on my arm and find the bigger piece of flesh hahahaha. They would look at my arm and take a quick test nip to see what it is hahahahahaha. No blood but it was funny.

Cheers,
Sean

I've got two seperate clutches of ackie eggs in the incubator right now. one clutch is at 99 days right now, so they should be popping out anytime.

Waiting on my first set of monitor eggs right now....

SHvar Jun 22, 2007 10:57 AM

But a few clutches thrown out.
I havent even kept track of how many, I believe the insects chewed up the last clutch, but then again, havent bothered to dig them up.
I just havent taken the time to mess with any of the eggs recently other than to throw them away after they have been in the ground too long or chewed up (if I look for them).
Maybe sometime Ill incubate some more, the ackies are getting bigger and bigger, just the other day she disappeared for around 3 days, came out looking a bit thinner, in 2 days she was almost as fat again. Both of them can eat adult mice.
Maybe the next clutch, maybe not, my wife asked me if Ill bother to hatch anymore recently, not sure, until then the flavi-argus loves to make use of any I find.
