i have a question i see a lot of people post pics of their snakes outside in the grass. is this a safe practice or should i worry about parasites? i really dont want my male retic getting bugs from playing in the grass.

I am not so worried about that however, I do have a story for you. It was not my retic, I dare not take him out side because he is a mover, but I did take my burm outside, she was 13 ft over 100 lbs and well she was fine for a while and then all of a sudden decided to take off. I have a fence in my back yard, however, seeing her move was impressive and scary. She ended up going towards the house and moving up my house, I have a ranch so she was up by the roof. I kept pulling her down and she then let out the oder that smelled up the whole neighborhood and then the whole house when I got her back in. Wife was pretty upset. Needless to say, I think I got lucky, and won't try it again.

On a side note to. You don't really want the neighborhood knowing what you have. They may call the police just because. Don't get me wrong people know what I have but they do not see the size of them. So if you have town laws you are unware of, best keep it inside. Some town law says any animal deemed dangerous and that is wide open.

But outdoor pictures are nice.

You have little if anything at all to worry about. Most reptiles pick up most of their parisites from the food they consume. Sure there are mites and ticks outdoors but the chances are slim that your snake will end up with them.

yes jim she is beautiful i just hope that my male gets close to that size, how big is she

Jim123 Jun 24, 2007 11:46 AM

She is a little over 19' now.
I highly doubt that your male would become that size. Here is a rather large male who is also 8 years of age. The last time I measured him, he was slightly over 16' - 6" which was last September. The man is the picture is Tom McCarthy who is a friend of mine.
