Painted/ Red Ear questions

EmberBall Aug 17, 2003 02:59 PM

My neighbor just got Painted turtle for his son. It is about 6" or so, and kept in a small aquarium. I have given him the advice to get one of the big plastic ponds from Lowe's and put it in there, in his sons room, or possibley outside. We live in Temecula CA, where it gets up to 100 degrees in the summer, down to the 60's at night, and 70-80 during the winter, and down to like 40 degrees. If given shade in the summer, can it live outside year round?

Yes this turtle can be kept outside in a pond year round because you do not get snow and really cold weather. I suggest putting up a good fence around the pond so animals can't get to the turtle.

Shade the water, not the basking spot. Make sure he gets full sun in the basking area.
