behavior question, cribos vs indigos

eponymous Jun 22, 2007 12:31 PM

i think i'd really like to keep and eventually breed drymarchons eventually, and was wondering where to start getting into the genus.

i like easterns the best as far as appearance goes, but the legendary attitude is what i'm REALLY after.

so how does an easier/cheaper to get snake like a blacktail cribo stack up against an eastern or texas indigo in terms of behavior, size, etc?

if, for arguments' sake, i raised a single blacktail juvie or hatchling would that be considered a good introduction to the genus or would i still be missing out?

In general, indigos are often considered more calm and personable than cribos. However, every snake is an individual and I've noticed that any of the snakes in the Drymarchon genus can become docile. Yellow Tails seem to have the reputation as the most aggressive, but mine are both "puppy dog" when out of the cage.

By starting out with a Black Tail cribo you won't be disappointed. In fact, I would say that it is a great way to start with Drys. Once you understand the husbandry and behavior of your Black Tail then you can work your way up, and get the expensive stuff.

Good luck! Drys are great snakes.
