I can't help but worry

spec May 21, 2003 07:34 PM

since I'm new to the bearded dragon world, I can't help but worry. I thought Zeffer was finally getting his appetite back. He ate a few crix today but has yet to defecate. I was going to take a fecal sample to the vet but since he didn't defecate that's not an option.
I thought he may have been impacted a few days ago. Since then I've been giving him soaks and breaking the crix up for him. is this the right thing to do?
Now since he hasn't defecated I'm wondering if I should make an appt with the vet and take him in. suggestions?

I was also wondering if it's normal for beardies to lie in the shadows between rocks. Zeffer also likes to climb the screen doors I have on the front of his cage. Should I change those to plexiglass so he can't do that?

Thanks in advance.

Its normal for them to go days between "movements".Mine is very heathly and he only goes a couple times a week.Give it more greens and less crix and warm soaks seem to make them go to.How much veggies do you feed him?

he's only a baby, like 10 weeks old. I've only had him for 2 1/2 weeks and have yet to get him to eat veggies. someone else suggested I take a fecal sample to the vet to see if he had parasites. Now I'm waiting on him to defecate so I can get that done. But Im wondering if I should take him in to get a checkup and bloodwork. He seems otherwise healthy. Very alert and mobile.

You should also mist him 2-3 times a day to ensure they don't dehydrate. Also, try feeding him pureed carrots..offer some on your finger, even going so far as to rub it on his nose so he gets a taste of it.

pureed carrots? like baby food?

I just use the parmasaun cheese part of my cheeze grater (the little raised circles). This turns a carrot into a fairly fine mush. You could use baby food but why bother going to get some? dont' need that much anyway. Typically a teaspoon a day would do the trick, probably alot less due to the size of your beardie.

You could probably use a small food processor to get the same sort of mush but may wind up making alot more than you initially need.
