Cal.King Photos is Hypo,norm,Blond? Upd.

GabooNx Jun 22, 2007 09:26 PM

Here are some up close shots in natural light and also under compact florescent lights some shots have flash on some off. I am wearing the gloves because he always tags me when I get him out of the cage as you might see in some of the photos, once he is out of his cage he is calm. Enjoy and tell me what you think, normal, hypo or blond?
*Plus a very short video @ the bottom.

Great looking snake. I just can't get over the gloves... for a Cal King? Very funny. When I got my first Cal King (WC female 2 years ago) my wife told me to wear gloves the very fist time I handled her. I don't need gloves as much as I need a smock cuz she still musks & craps all over me. I'm not well versed enough on the numerous Cal King morphs to know if he's hypo or not (that would be my uneducated guess), but I do know he's a beaut. Perhaps Kerby's lurking about and can chime in.

Lol I know but if you look in those last photos or the movie you can see where he tagged me and doesn’t let go. I am trying train him to NOT tag anything that goes into his cage he has such a food response. I have read that gloves are one of the best ways to do this. Anyway thanks for the response.

Looks like a lavender albino to me. It's king of hard to tell from the pics though. The flash washes out the eyes, but the others are a little dark. I'm sure Kerby will know.

Well, I hope we get a response from Kerby because I have one just like it and would like to hear an other opinion on it. All the big time kingsnake hunter guys (Hubbs & Fundad) think it's just variation for that area. But what ever it might be, all the guys that hunt those areas regard it as a very good find.

The Snake you're Holding looks like a Hypomelanistic Cali King... it is misrepresented as a lavender Albino because when they hatch they have a Strong Purple color and ruby red eyes... though they retain the ruby red eyes into adulthood the formerly "purple" coloration turns brown...

Here is a hatchling Hypo

Here is a hatchling Lavender Albino

My albino that was sold labled as lavendar albino was pink and yellow, but is turnin more purple and yellow with each shed... Of course my camera won't pick it up, but she really is lavendar now...
I'm not really concerned with labeling, but its a little frustrating when you don't know and the breeder doesn't either... I don't know how you guys even attempt to keep the colors straight...

your snake is not a Lavender albino just a regular T- Albino Cali king... the Lavenders have a deeper red eye color... more of a ruby red color... your snake I'm sure has a transparent red/pink eye color...

they grow up to be amazing white and yellow beauties though!

Like I said, I don't care what she is, because she's beautiful either way... But since I'd like to breed her at least once to my B&W, it'd be nice to have an idea of what she is, and the breeder couldn't even tell me what her parents looked like...
Although I guess at this point I should just be glad I found her after her great escape into my livingroom.. lol
I need to get a good camera and get some nice shots of her face up close, because her eyes are the coolest shade of red I've ever seen in an animal...

Thanks for all the responses now I need to sex my male to make sure he is a male then find someone selling decent sized females at upcoming shows in my area. Mine looks most like the hatchling Hypo, I just feed him a 46 Gram mouse on Monday mourning and he is still hungry for more, the only snake I had that could eat like this guy was my Burm.
