ID Needed...

jenn_jeffery Jun 22, 2007 11:21 PM

A friend of a friend called me tonight--he'd found this guy outside his house when he got home, and since I have reptiles, I'm apparently the best place for it...

Need a positive ID if possible so I can research care, and be sure he goes to a good home--I don't have room for something that gets this big!

Oh, I'll be parting with it! He's (?) actually going to a friends house today as she has a bigger cage available than I do. If we can't find his owners, and she decides not to keep him, we'll find a home locally for him (Arizona) since neither of us is prepared to ship something this large.

Thanks for the answer, I was thinking Rhino....

I'm afraid someone did dump him/her. The area he was found in isn't one you would typically find an expensive, well cared for (seemingly) animal. Pretty friendly too, unless you pick him up! We're going to give it at least a week and a half to try and find the owners, in case he escaped while on vacation, then we'll try and find him a good home---one that can prove a nice outside cage (we're in Arizona) is available, and someone who can provide vet refs. Poor fella has been through enough in the past couple of days, we don't want to toss him to an inexperienced keeper....

I don't expect that this Cyclura is just set loose by someone. These animals are worth a lot of money (at least here in Holland) So why would someone dump it, if he can also simply sell them.

I don't know what their worth over there by you, but here it's pretty much money for what you've found.

They need a very large cage, so I don't know if your friend can provide this for her? They eat a lot also, so that might be 'expensive' also.

So better know what you do with this animal, don't just give it away or something. Their really nice to keep if you have to money and the roam.

If you want to, I might now someone who might be interested in it. You can always contact me here via mail for that.

Succes with this specie!

They're not cheap over here either!! The only reason I can see one being turned loose is, a child was bitten and the wife says the lizard goes....Also possible someone turned it loose to 'get even' with someone for something. Some people just aren't bright.

If my friend does keep her, her husband is a welder and can easily build a nice outdoor enclosure. If we rehome it, not sure if we'll charge a fee or not, or just do a home check for caging setup, and check vet references. It will go to a good home though. Oh, and feeding expense wouldn't be that much more for her, she already has a lot of veggie eaters...

okay,

someone over here who I know, is also looking for Cyclura cornuta. He has 24m˛ for them. But he can't find any animals for a reasonable price. They all ask prices which are idiot high.

If you would be interested in this one, or know someone who would, and can provide vet references and would be willing to let me deliver and check caging, then email me at jenn jeffery @ gmail . com (remove spaces of course....)
