Last night I had the pleasure of herping on my Luna Vista tract with ErikNM. When we were finished we decided to stage a quick photo shoot. He had a NICE milk snake and I had my first gray-band. We both wanted photos of each.

However, my tract in pretty rough and I was afraid the snakes could escape if we tried to photograph them there.

Solution: We left my private property and drove to a nearby rock cut in a PUBLIC right of way. I’ve photographed snakes there before and knew there would be VERY little chance of an escape. We set-up and started shooting photos.

There we were with two snakes, bags, and cameras in a NO HUNT zone. Half way through the photo shoot, it dawned on me that a warden could easily jump to the wrong conclusion and believe he had caught us red handed.

Hmmmm… maybe being spotted picking up or bagging a snake at a cut is NOT proof of hunting after all.

A pillow sack is my preferred choice to hold all my bug collecting paraphernalia as I'm walking.

It sounds like you were lucky you did not run into the warden after all. Somebody down that way has really taken this and is running with like Forest Gump..
