Bob
are they active like carpets? >.< i want one sooo bad and i cant chose between this or a carpet
no experience with carpets, but BRBs are fantastic!! David looks like hes getting a big batch of babies in august, I know im calling one of the high reds!!
Meh MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FIRST. how much do they run for?
I'm guessing from $125 to several hundred but also check out Jeff Clark who will have more babies than anybody so he will definately have something to your liking. Carpets are cool but rainbow are the sh-t period
Bob
Hmm iv heard about jeff clark but i dont know his site
and will prolly post when some of his litters drop (I think he has 11 or 13 of 'em gravid) and runs ads in the classifieds when they are ready. Another guy you may want to check out is Will Bird at www.kingsnake.com/ectotherms/
Bob
Be sure to check out all four of the forum sponsors. Dave and I have already been mentioned but be sure to check out Rainbowboas.com and TooScaly also. Just click on the sponsors listed on the raibow boa page here and it will take you to our websites.

when stuck between two snakes get them all lol or in your case both i have both rainbow boas and carpets and love them all the same i have both types in boaphiels with perches and both types at night climb all over the place
DAMN!!!!!!!!!
I just found out 40 gallon breeder is too small for carpet pythons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is 55 gallon a good size?
depends on the species of carpt python west papuans (irian jaya) carpet are the smallest and SHOULD be fine in a 55 doesnt meen all will stay small enough to. now jungle carpets kinda go both ways if you got a small male he should be ok in a 55 gallon i would deff say bigger for a female jungle and coastals you def need a bigger cage they are the largest of the three and should have a bigger cage here is pics of all three
smallest the irian jaya

inbetween the jungle

largest the coastal

lots.lots.lots feeder mice and rats

Our Rainbow Boas do spend most of their time hiding at ground level but if you are nocturnal like I am you get to see them out moving around in their cages a bunch. Sometimes at night I get to see dozens of them all out moving around in their cages at the same time. It is like there is some sort of communication going on between them.

Out of curiosity how do you watch them? In terms of lighting specifically.
Mine rarely come out when there is virtually any light in the room so while I do know they are active I normally only see them out on their own when I turn the lights on in the night.
Is there a light source that you can use to watch them but which does not scare them into hiding or screw up their day/night cycle?
Thanks for any input.
Sean.
Well for mine they have no specific lighting, just the difused light from the window. At night I see them out and about as well when I go in the room and turn on the room lights. They don't scatter when the lights come on, just continue to cruise around the cages.

its easy seeing mine only lights they have is mainly the outside light throu the windows but i try to leave the room light on most the day into the night at round 9 the room light goes out i use a coil light as a room light and round bout 8 some of my collection starts to cruise but my comp is in the snake room where i spend alot of time at between snake maintnence durring day and not being able to sleep nights the computer light is more than enough to see whats goin on in the room (12X12 room) so i see everythign that goes on besides rainbow boa copulation i think they took a lesson from magical ninjas and never can be seen
lol, thanks for the info both of you. I may put some small night lights in the room to throw just enough diffused light to see em. Course who knows as I'll be moving soon and the new place may have diffuse light from outside at night.
Currently I have no outside light source because I have reflectix on the windows to kill the temp spikes in the room (single pane poorly sealed windows as well as poor insulation sigh).
My rainbows don't instantly scatter when I turn the lights on but they generally stop whatever they were doing and if I leave the lights on they will hide within about 10 minutes.
Sean.
Sean,
...OOOps wrong forum. I thoought I was in Candlepowerforums.com and talking about flashlights. I carry a Fenix P1 miniature flashlight in my pocket all the time. If I am in the snakeroom at night and do not have work to do in there I just use a flashlight to check on the snakes. Turning on the overhead room lights will cause some of them to go back into hiding.

Thanks for the idea, hadn't thought of that to minimize the impact. I'll have to move the emergency flashlight from the cupboard to the snake room
