Gravel rinseing

dd5 Aug 17, 2003 04:57 PM

I was thinking about rinseing my aquarium gravel for the bottom of the vivarium but it says to do it a few times but do you need to rinse it for use under the dirt? I mean its gona be hard buying a bunch of distilled water to rinse it .

Since the gravel is being used under the actual substrate, removing all of the dust and dirt from it isn't too large of an issue. When I use gravel in my terrariums I normally just place it in a kitchen strainer and run it under the sink a few times but you shouldn't need to really wash it thoroughly like you would if you were using it in an aquarium or as the actual substrate for the cage. Good luck,

I was going to rinse it in the sink but was scared of the super sensitiveity of these frogs to chlorine thats the only big issuie I had

Go ahead and rinse it in the sink, then spread it out to dry off. The chlorine will dissipate. I don't know why you would need to rinse at all if it's going to be under the soil.

i dont guess you have to. I just put mine in a strainer to ran it under the tank and tried to towel dry it. I just did it so all the itty bitty peices of gravel and dirt didnt make their way through the fiberglass netting. I dont see where it would be required.
